CMSA;I would have to call my painterly outlook at the moment pretty dark...hard not to be, as i'm taking inspiration from somewhat traumatic events and conditions of my early childhood....not to say that my childhood was particularly traumatic except for from the tiny perspective of the small child i was at the time. i'm afraid i'm also a believer in "van gogh syndrome"; that artists tend toward melancholy as one of the unpleasant side effects of the hypersensitivity that made them artists in the first place...i also think that "happiness" is not a state i will ever stay in for any length of time but i do feel it as one extreme in a continuum of emotions that i am constantly cycling through.. Not saying this is true of every artist, just me and a few of my friends....i'm adding here a response from today's art angel Carlin Diamond; "I call it divine discontent, the prod to finer expression of the deep stirrings rising from the bottom of the pot..an absolutely necessary ingredient in the fabric of one's artistic soul comes forth to be included." yeah, Carlin Diamond...what you said!

April 22nd, 2016.
CMSA; another glaze layer, another "rewhite".. maybe halfway... i don't know if other glazers do this or just me; i always do the most layers/glazing in focal areas..i'm appplying the rewhite as opaquely as possible using a stipple tech, for this one cuz of the texture of dress..usually i do a dry brush to apply the white.check out very close up if you get a chance one of my fav painters Remedios Varos, who appears to make her underpainting from a tiny whitepm crosshatching. wanna learn? may 12 thru 15 at the los angeles brewery...please share with anyone you think might be interested...thanks! cynda

CMSA;next steps for undrpainting glazing on this small painting (8x14 inches) ; i struggled and experimented endlessly over the years for an effective underpainting for glaze layers; i was almost 54 when a facebook friend and awesome Los angeles painter (he and his pals are putting representational art back into the fine art commercial system) ; F Scott Hess (i always wonder what the f stands for) generously shared the secret to glaze underpaiinting that i had been missing.. solves the issue of glaze layers piling up to a too dark color...the secret is you just keep reintroducing and building up the white underpainting after EVERY GLAZE LAYER...IF THE LAYERS ARE PRODUCING TOO DARK A COLOR. IT'S CALLED MIXED WHITE (THOUGH ENGLISH IS NOT THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE OF THE NAME) IT COMEs FROM EUROPE WHERE SCOTT GOT THE TRADITIONAL painting TRAINING THAT I MISSED HERE IN THE STATES; PHOTOS SHOW: 1: ORIGINAL UNDERPAINTING WITH FIRST GLAZE LAYERS, 2. SHOWS REWHITE ON TOP OF THE DRY FIRST GLAZE . 3: SHOWs A DETAIL OF THE FIRST REWHITE STEP..I EXAGGERATE THE COLOR AND THE CONTRAST AT THIS POINT..WANNA LEARN THIS TECHNIQUE AS WELL AS IMPRESSIONIST ALA PRIMA PAINTING? it is way easier to understand and it makes perfect erganomic sense if you see it done as opposed to reading about it. .. WORKSHOP COMING UP HERE AT THE BRWERY STUDIO IN LOS ANGELES : 4 FULL DAYS $300.00 BEGINNERS WELCOME BUT SOME ESPERIENCE WITH ARTMAKING IS An ASSET...as you can see, the ability to spell and use proper grammer is not required

CMSA; this morning as i was outside soaking up some vitamin d, I noticed a fly in a small patch of light right next to me..i wondered why she would stand in the sun like that where she was clearly visible to any passing predators. I figured it out seconds later when another fly landed on her and attempted fly sex. It only lasted a second or two but the minute she was mounted the first fly tried to shake him off, she tried (unsuccessfully) to fly with his added weight. She seemed like such an unwilling participant i was surprised to see, when fly number 2 released her, that she didn't fly away, but stayed in that same spot of sunlight awaiting his return, or more suitors??? I've seen this same scenario take place with the chickens and the cows and all the animals we lived with in Potter Valley (middle of nowhere , norcal)... This seems to me a wonderful expression of the sexual ambivalence many humans suffer from: To seek connection while, at the same time, avoid loosing freedom and autonomy...
